Kitchen Design and Remodeling Trends of 2021

Each year, new kitchen trends come around, with many homeowners deciding to do away with their old designs in favor of something new and trendy. With a lot of the population having to stay home over the past year due to the pandemic, more people than usual are looking to freshen up their kitchen space. It makes sense – after all, the kitchen is often seen as the heart of the home. So, if you’re looking to improve your kitchen in time for the summer, here are the kitchen design and remodeling trends of 2021.

Smart Technology

Smart technology isn’t just for your pocket or your car – it’s also making its way into your kitchen. Over the past year, more and more people have decided to install touchless features into their kitchen, and that number will only continue to grow. That includes appliances such as smart ovens, Alexa-enabled coffee makers, and touchless faucets. The future is here!

Open Storage

One of the biggest trends you will see throughout 2021 is the use of open storage in the kitchen. This can be accomplished in many ways, with one of the most popular being floating wooden shelves. If you want to hop on this trend, you could also try unhinging your pantry door or installing see-through cupboards.

Clashing Colors

Clashing colors don’t have to be painful on the eye. Using two colors from opposite ends of the color wheel can actually have a wonderful popping effect, lifting the entire atmosphere of the kitchen. Color will be a big focus for kitchen trends in 2021, with those even with neutral kitchens opting for at least a small pop of color.

Mixed Materials

Mixed materials, in particular mixed metals, are a huge kitchen trend for 2021. For example, you could use brass on the light fittings while using bronze for the sink. While too many materials can look a bit overwhelming, getting the balance right will create a wonderfully dynamic effect. Don’t be surprised if you step into a kitchen with marble counters combined with a wooden floor!

Curved Designs

Many homeowners will be saying goodbye to sharp corners this year. Instead, they will opt for kitchen islands and countertops with curved edges, smoothly blending the whole kitchen together.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper hasn’t been as popular during the past decade, but it might be making a resurgence, especially when kitchens are involved. To give the room a pop of color alongside more playful and interesting designs, many people will be using wallpaper on their kitchen walls.

Pale Wood

Rustic, dark wooden kitchens have been all the rage the past couple of years, and while that won’t completely shift any time soon, there will be more kitchen fittings that involve paler woods in 2021. Think sun-bleached or weathered oak over English chestnut – the paler, the better.

Whichever 2021 kitchen trend you plan on jumping on, remodeling the place you cook, socialize, and eat is never a bad idea.
